Giving birth in BCA
The costs for giving birth at Bevalcentrum Amsterdam are the same as for a hospital outpatient birth. The rate is set annually by the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). For 2026, the rate has been set at € 883,64. Of this amount, € 278.00 is reimbursed from the basic health insurance. The remaining € 605,64 is the statutory personal contribution.
The government has determined that a statutory personal contribution (WEB), just as with a hospital outpatient birth, applies to giving birth in a birth centre. Whether you have to pay this personal contribution yourself or whether it is reimbursed depends on your insurance policy. The WEB can be (partly) insured through supplementary insurance. Please consult your insurer’s reimbursement overview for details.
Two hours after the birth of the placenta, maternity care begins. The hours you remain with us after that time will be offset against the hours of maternity care at home. The hourly rate for 2026 has been set at € 76,88. A statutory personal contribution also applies to this rate, amounting to € 5.70 per hour.
Depending on your policy, the statutory personal contribution for the birth and maternity care is invoiced either by the birth centre or by your health insurer.
Contracted health insurers
For most health insurers with whom we have a contract, the invoice is sent directly to the insurer.
If you receive the invoice from us, you can submit it yourself to your insurer for reimbursement, depending on your supplementary insurance. You are responsible for timely payment to Bevalcentrum Amsterdam.
All contracted health insurers reimburse a birth with medical nitrous oxide.
If you use medical nitrous oxide during your labour, the personal contribution is waived. This also applies if, during your labour at the birth centre, you are referred to the hospital due to a medical indication and transferred to a medical delivery room.
If you are referred after the birth of your baby, the personal contribution almost always does apply. This depends on your insurance policy.
Insured with a non-contracted insurer?
Are you insured with a health insurer with whom we do not have a contract?

We advise you to contact your insurer in advance to ask which part of the invoice will be reimbursed.
